We’ve prepared The Important Things Index to help you identify the things that you’ll miss if a personal or community disaster strikes. The index provides reminders to better prepare you for unforeseen calamities, for example, you’re traveling out-of-town, and you need to know your medications because you’ve accidently dropped your pills down the drain; you need the phone number of one of your kid’s afterschool activities; you’re visiting family and want to cook one of mom’s favorite recipes; or you need information on where you’ll meet your family if they have to evacuate your home.
It is one of the most complete lists of the things that matter that you’ll find anywhere and as you think about the list, it’s overwhelming.
We understand and we’ve developed tools to help you organize your important things—photos, documents, music and more. And we’ll provide you with secure space on the Internet cloud to store the materials that you’ve digitized and converted to electronic files. Need help? We’ll find the ways to help you digitize the things that matter to you. You can update your files whenever you need to, like when your doctor changes the dosage of your prescription. Whatever you store at Our Heritage Vault is always available to you from any Internet connected device. And, if you want to keep original documents as well as your digitized data in one place, we’ve developed the EvacuPacket, a handy grab n’ go package for your data and documents as well as extra keys, credit cards, and cash.
To get started, you’ll want to back up the data files on your personal computer and save them at OurHeritageVault.com. Select the photographs that you care about, digitally scan them, and create electronic files. Don’t try to scan all the photograph in your albums and on your walls. Be selective. Which ones might you miss most if a disaster strikes? Once you have some photos securely saved in Our Heritage Vault, begin to scan the papers that you may need after a disaster such as your financial and insurance records. Think about the documents that tell your family’s story. Your family tree, marriage certificates, and birth certificates. Your favorite sports teams, authors, and stories. Don’t forget your address book, holiday mailing list, and the like.
You can always add more photos to your vault and easily update information whenever the things that matter in your life change. Consider the importance of these things:
